Lan Jaenicke Finds Beauty Everywhere

Designer Lan Jaenicke designs clothes that will support you in the adventure of life. Handcrafted using the finest materials, the items from her label are meant to make you feel comfortable and confident. For Lan, each classic piece should endure physically and aesthetically for a lifetime.

To mark Women’s History Month, we talked to women who inspired us with their impact, including Lan. Below she shares more about her everyday life — including how her Bluejay Bike fits into her own adventures.

What does a day in your life look like?

There isn’t a “typical” day. Each day is different and offers its own challenges and rewards. I love that you can create your day with your vision in mind, then everything proceeds in that direction and all challenges will become victories.

What gets you out of bed each morning?

The thought of coffee and lipsticks.

What are you most proud of?

The two babies I raised, one is my teenage boy and the other is Lan Jaenicke.

What’s the one thing you cannot live without?

Imagination.

Who inspires you the most and why?

My mother.  She is always original and optimistic.  She inspired me to follow my passion, be my true self, and find beauty in everything.

What do you love most about your Bluejay Bike?

I love the classic look and its technology. This is the only bike I found that has both function and form (and I have researched a ton). There's no way I can climb the hills of San Francisco without the pedal assist. It really takes me out to nature even in the city. It helps to clear my mind and be present on the ride.

How does your Bluejay make you feel?

It makes me feel I’m doing something good for myself and the planet. I feel spontaneous and free.

What’s your favorite outfit for riding your Bluejay?

Definitely my Lan Jaenicke Mitchley jacket with a messenger bag. It has a deep hood and is double breasted. It’s lightweight yet keeps me cozy from the elements. I wear the hood up when the wind picks up or simply if I want to cover up my helmet.

What’s in your bike’s basket?

Usually a snack or some fresh blooms for our shops, and my phone.

What’s the best song to bike to?

These days I do an audio book or just ride silently with my own thoughts about what’s for dinner with my family.

What’s your favorite place to ride your Bluejay?

In the city of SF, the ride can be challenging or easy breezy depending on which route you take.  The choice is yours.
